The moral clarity of WHO DG Dr. Tedros : Kul Gautam

Agree with The Lancet that WHO DG Dr. Tedros "has been the moral conscience of the health community as we have watched Gaza become a graveyard for children and seen Israeli hostages cruelly held by Hamas. His voice has been one of principle, above the fray of national political interests and compromises. He has redefined the idea of ethical leadership".

For his outspoken voice of conscience, Tedros and WHO had to bear the brunt of some harsh & unfair criticism by Israeli authorities, but that has not diminished WHO's effectiveness or relevance. UN agencies can and must muster the courage to speak up more boldly in defence of international norms while retaining their neutrality and integrity.

  2. Hi Kul it is nice of you to think of sharing with us the Lancet article with its commendatory words of Dr Tedros showing great leadership with steadfast and courageous interventions and comments on the Hamas/ Isreael war with its human consequences, not shying away to fight for the principle and values of WHO.
May I say Kul what we are now witnessing is the reaction of the real Dr Tedros, the courageous leader I knew and have worked with when he was the Minister of Health of Ethiopia; myself I was holding the fort for UNAIDS. I must add a man with a fearless mind who had shown an unshakable resolution to address and rise to challenges.
