Two sobering articles on the rise of single-parent families and their consequences on the well-being of children.
Hard facts seem to collide with political correctness inhibiting leftists and liberals from acknowledging that the trend toward single-parent families leads to increased child poverty, inequality and other factors that are harmful to children. What is needed are compassionate policies that do not stigmatize single parents, particularly mothers, and offer them appropriate support, but do not unduly glamorize single parenthood.
On balance, studies seem to show that the best interests of children are maximized in two-parent families (and I would add, with the presence of supportive grandparents!).
Important lessons for organizations like UNICEF that should promote positive parenting practices in the best interest of children.

And yet another great article:
Two-parent households should be a policy goal. |
