IN MEMORIAM      Yvon Roy Retired Chief of Audit in the Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) UNICEF Headquarters

Dear Colleagues,     It is with great sorrow that I inform you that our former UNICEF colleague, Yvon Roy passed away on 2 August 2023 in Quebec, Canada.        Yvon, a dedicated professional, joined UNICEF in 2002 as Chief of Audit. Over his two decades with OIAI, he was responsible for an extensive portfolio of audit and advisory engagements and provided strategic guidance and leadership on a myriad of cross-cutting issues critical to the success of UNICEF’s operations. His remarkable stewardship extended to overseeing a range of collaborative endeavors such as joint and coordinated audits undertaken by the UN Internal Audit Services.  Prior to his time with UNICEF, Yvon held the esteemed position of Audit Director at the Office of the Auditor General in Canada.  He also worked as an auditor at PriceWaterhouseCooper and Deloitte Touche, where he contributed as an accomplished auditor.  Yvon’s influences extended beyond the UN and corporate realm.  He shared his wealth of knowledge as a respected speaker and lecturer, addressing vital subjects related to audit, finance and accounting.  His contributions were felt not only within the halls of two prominent Canadian universities but also resonated on international platforms.  Yvon was a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and earned a Master of Science in Finance in Canada. He is survived by his mother, Hélène Vachon, and siblings, Rita, Louise, and Thérèse.  A celebration of life to commemorate his legacy will be held at the Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais, 95 de la Cité-des-Jeunes boulevard in Gatineau (Hull sector), on 16 September 2023 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.  The family will receive condolences from 12:00 pm onwards.  For those wishing to convey their sympathies, online condolences may be made via this link: Roy, Yvon - Avis de décès | Coopérative funéraire de l'Outaouais (cfo.coop).  Additionally, donations in memory of Yvon may be made to the Cancer Research Society/Société de recherche sur le cancer.
