Missing You - Poonam Buttan, RIP : June Kunugi

I’m sorry to share some very sad and devastating news today, which some of you may have already heard from David yesterday—our dear colleague, Poonam Buttan, passed away yesterday, after a long struggle with a number of health issues.

David and I are in the process of trying to obtain details of the funeral which we understand will be held on Monday. We are also trying to find out if we can send flowers or if the family wishes to have contributions, including perhaps to support a designated cause. Wendy has already kindly offered to be the focal point for contributions once we have more information: @Wendy-Foster-16, and please send to her any messages and photos you would like to have shared with the family.

Perhaps next week we can take some time to have our own memorial for Poonam, to share memories including with former colleagues and retirees, to which we can also invite members of her family if they would like to join. I think it would be important to recognize and pay tribute to everything she had done with us, and share how much she meant to us as a cherished and valued colleague.

With very heavy heart,

June,

June Kunugi

This is such devastating news. Poonam worked in UNICEF delhi for a short period before moving to USA where we ran into each other at the UN building in NY. She was so lively way back in 1990. Such an untimely passing. May her spirit live on, may her soul rest in peace.
