Sport Aid - Race for Life -May 1986
We were in front of the UN Building. Jim Grant had convinced Harry Belafonte to serve as a Goodwill Ambassador. I was there as Chief of the Africa Section. My wife, Nadia, was there as well, along with Ethel Grant and Karin Sham Poo, Nadia got Harry to pose alone with her....and voila !! We have an excellent memory of the day. Note also Horst Cerni is on the right, taking photos of the day.

For many years Harry Belafonte served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. I had the honor and pleasure of scoring much of the background music for this video. It was a key infomercial for the work of UNICEF in the late 1980s-early1990s. The footage is a little rough now but the ideas presented are as timely today as they were then. This is now part of a UNICEF Harry Belafonte B-Roll, notes are located at: http://www.unicef.org/videoaudio/PDFs...For many more videos of Harry Belafonte's work with UNICEF click here

There are so many songs Harry Belafonte sang and we all remember, but here is one for our generation -
Thanks so much for these memories. I do hope that these are exposed to the existing young staff of UNICEF. But almost 24hrs on I do not see this headlining the UNICEF.ORG public website nor on ICON (internal intranet). Pity.

ReplyDeleteWe lost a giant and a visionary friend who advocated and acted on his commitment for a better world for children. His contribution will be felt for many years, and I wish to thank our colleagues for putting this material together for it is inspiration for many generations to come.
