Message from the UNICEF Comptroller
Dear Colleagues,
Due to supply chain constrains, the United Nations is unable to source additional stock of the current electronic UNLP booklet before transitioning to a new security design and receipt of the first shipment of the next edition of UNLP.
Since the post-pandemic lifting of travel restrictions, the Travel and Transportation Section of the UN has seen unprecedented demand that has depleted reserve UNLP stock faster than expected (red UNLP stock is sufficient and not effected). If continued at this rate, there will be no blue UNLP stock available in less than 5 months.
Proof of travel is required with a copy of an approved Travel Authorization (TA)
New Mission Critical Supplementary UNLP Form must be submitted with all blue UNLP applications
All efforts should be made to assign missions to staff already in possession of valid UNLPs
UNLPs for home leave travel will be strictly limited to those who cannot undertake home leave travel using only their national passport
Requests for UNLPs for travel related to non-mandatory training and other non-mission critical purposes be withheld until further notice
Renewal of expiring residency permits placed in the UNLP should be requested to be issued in the applicant’s national passports at duty stations which also allow their issuance in a national passport
Due to the criticality of the situation and impact on global operations of all entities, these measures are being implemented immediately and will remain in effect until further notice.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in following these newly instituted procedures with efforts to preserve the UNLP stock at a maintainable level.
Kind regards,
Thomas Asare

If continued at this rate, there will be no blue UNLP stock available in less than 5 months.
To preserve remaining stock for those who are most in need, the Under Secretary General for Operational Support, Mr. Atul Khare, has just sent a memorandum to all UN heads of entities detailing new requirements for issuance of UNLPs.
Effective immediately the following procedures will remain in effect until further notice for all UNLP applications. New or renewal UNLP requests should only be submitted for those individuals with mission critical official travel plans to be undertaken within one month of the application

Wow! I still have all my old UNLPs preserved with pride. I also have the blue UNICEF ID issued under the Iraq Emergency (1991-1995). I'll tell my grandchildren that they are soon going to be collectors' items!
ReplyDeleteHow can I retrieve my UNLP? I handed it over to Personel Section in UNICEF HQ when I retired in 2005 (early retirement). No one told me that I can keep it.
