December 3rd: Happy International Day of Persons with Disabilities!
Nice report, Ken. Thanks.
Wonderful! The food must have been amazing, too. I watch Stanley Tucci: Search of Italy series on CNN. One day I will knock at your door, Gianni. Get ready!
Yes Fouad, it's encouraging to see how sports and especially soccer can unite peoples. May the message of the Palestinian children be heard by many leaders and make a difference.
Thanks Doreen. Very funny (especially the Russian one...)
I apologise for not responding to these lovely comments sooner. I am now travelling in Malaysia… to see my daughter and our two other granddaughters. As with our other trips this year I’m also fitting in a few more portraits. Thank you all for such great encouragement. I shall share the “Malaysian collection’ sometime next year. AND @homesickferenji I may well be in touch about sharing some work with an Ethiopian Gallery in Oxford. Cheers and seasons greetings to you all. George
Always inspiring, tireless and mission driven rather than status focused, like many other seniors. Wish there were more of his ilk in the U.N system. His ability to work out of the box and his deep knolweldge of the country context meant that he did not apply cookie cutter approaches, the issue is when he makes openings, does the YUN system have the horsepower to take advantage. Many thanks Steffan from a then small cog in the Sudan UNICEF programme in the mid 80s. So many lessons learned from you.

The pressure of public opinion must always be imposed on those who violate the fundamental rights of children as articulated in the UN Charter on Rights of Children, at all times in all places. Obviously, UNICEF has a major role to hold state violators of CRC to account. Impunity should not stand. I fully support statements of Kul and Niloufar. Baquer
Lovely picture! All of you looking good and happy to connect over a ‘ Roman’ dinner. Sree
Thank you, Staffan, for this fascinating and inspiring interview. Yes, it is so important to be reminded that we can make a difference. Best wishes for your mission in Western Sahara.
How wonderful to meet in person, after year/s of virtual meetings! Doreen
So alive and well, each one of them.

Yes indeed - though it’s not strong enough. And other action is needed too. Nevertheless our collective Iranian action and blood seems to have made a small difference. And the push of our friends. Niloufar

Better late than never. Glad the UNICEF statement referred to and "echoed" the statement by the S-G. As the UNICEF statement was issued on 27 November, the day after the UN Human Rights Council passed a strong resolution on Iran, I wish it would have referred to the HRC resolution and Volker Turk's remarks that were strong and principled -- and specifically referred to the plight of women and children. ====================== Kul Chandra Gautam

Doreen, these old quotes make me laugh and I like them. The new ones don't. It must say something about my age! Thank you. 😆🤣😂
Thank you, Ramesh for your writting about these two young future leaders. I am sure there are many differences as there are a few wonderful similarities between the two young ladies, Malala and Greta. The one most important difference is that Malala almost lost her life. As a young child the violent Talibans shot her because she stood up to them. In return the coward Talibans wanted to shut her up and make her disappear and invisible, just like they have made 50 percent of Afghanistan's 35 million female invisible. I admire both Malala and Greta struggling for the future, for justice in their world for their generation. I wish them both the very best and much success. And I thank you once again. My gratitude and respects to you!
On the question of UNICEF not speaking up, today in an interview on CNN an Iranian doctor who has been participating in the demonstrations mentioned his disappointment in the UN and in UNICEF for not clearly condemning the government's actions.
I found this frightening. How about an article on some successes from the innovation fund? Are there some, maybe not crypto related?
So real! Some of these could be photos.

George, absolutely superb!

Iranian women are proving to be brave, knowlegable, demanding and marching forwar for the good of the future generation. Sadly, I can't say one good thing about the Iranian religiosity or any other religiosity in power, lets say those next door to them in Afghanistan. Bravo and more power to the Iranian women!
@ Boudewijn. Yes, David Haxton was the Representative for India and also the Regional Director at the time of Sport Aid. Alas, all those who were involved with the India Sport Aid contribution have retired. The PR and logistics were managed by the then Information/Communication Section under Razia Ismail. The Section used to keep daily newspaper cuttings of interests to UNICEF and children. I transferred out of India in 1990 so I don't know what has happened to the archives that the Section used to have. I doubt any of the current UNICEF India Office Staff will even know about the event. I can try to reach out to Razia and send her your post and interest. I'm not sure if she is a member of the XUNICEFer group or she would have seen your post. Will e-mail you separately. Cheers and best regards Peter

Lovely work!
Delightful 😊! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Peter. That's fascinating, the India story. I was not aware of this. Would be great to share the concert and some photos. I suppose David Haxton was still Rep in Delhi then. Any way to contact the India office? Superb that India madse this contribution to Africa Best regards Boudewijn Mohr Beaune, France

Great points! UNICEF’s interpretation of ‘innovation’ is still too narrow - and limiting.

So alive, so beautiful 😍. Bravo!
Fascinating recollection, Horst! Without getting into the infamous Maradona controversy, just a small point: as you know, in football the countries of the United Kingdom compete as separate teams. So the fans who clashed with the Argentinian fans may have been British by nationality but they were probably first and foremost chauvinistic English fans. The competition between fans of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland teams is fierce and has probably become worse. The 1980s were the height of the hooligan problem in the UK. It hasn't gone away completely. Here`s hoping for a good and peaceful England vs Wales match next week (it’s the first time Wales have made it to the Finals since 1958, and ended up in the same group as England!).
Superb, greatly admire these portraits
These are wonderful, George.
Just amazing. Very powerful and full of life.
Stunning !!!

  2. One in ten on the world child population has some form of physical, mental, learnin or social disability. In economically poor countries these children have little access to schools, health facilities or access to social integration. Article 23 of the Convention on the Rights of the Cild demands these children have their Rlights and needs be met by their governments signitory to the CRC. Gratitude and respect. Gulbadan
