SOLILOQUY OF A POSTAGE STAMP, #79: UNITED NATIONS EDIFICES, Cont'd, by Fouad Kronfol

This week I conclude the segment of this topic related to the WHO HQ building inaugurated in 1966 in Geneva, Switzerland. Yes, I know that most of the stamps have shown the same design and for the lay person this would be repetitious and not interesting. For the philatelist,  however, every stamp has a special significance and its own personality as well as its value in a collection. That is the underlying factor that makes collecting stamps a passionate hobby. Next week I will show other UN buildings with a much wider variety of designs and colors, which will be more likely to interest my readers.

Here we have the three stamp air mail set issued by Libya showing the new WHO building and the WHO Emblem.

This Souvenir Sheet, also from Libya, commemorates the new WHO HQ placed within a UN flag.

From the Principality of Monaco this is a First Day Cover with the two stamps issued for the WHO HQ. Unusually the building is shown from the side of the complex. The cachet is the WHO Emblem. The post mark represents the fort of the Principality and is dated 12 December 1966.

Here is the three stamp air mail set issued by the Republic of Lebanon for the WHO HQ. The inscription in Arabic and French indicates the "Inauguration of the WHO Headquarters on 3 May 1966".

From Mongolia we have the same design of the WHO building complex and the Emblem.

The Kingdom of Morocco also issued this two stamps set with the same standard design of the new WHO complex...although the building is shown from two different view points.

This stamp from Nepal reproduces the design of the WHO building placed in front of a flag with the WHO Emblem.

From one of the Arab Emirates in the Gulf, Ras Al Khaima, we have this four stamp air mail set issued for the WHO HQ. The stamps become more attractive with a border showing flowers on the left side.

The Republic of Rwanda issued this three stamp set with the standard design of the WHO HQ building.

Same design of the WHO HQ complex is shown in this two stamp set issued by El Salvador.

From the Pacific island of Samoa I Sisifo here is a four stamp set issued for the WHO HQ. Two of the stamps show the building over a flag with the WHO Emblem.

Another Arab Emirate, Sharjah & Dependencies, issued this stamp with the standard design of the WHO complex and the UN Emblem.

Another three stamp set with the same design was issued by the Sudan.

From the Syrian Arab Republic we have this air mail stamp also with the same design of the building complex but here it is framed by the WHO Emblem

The design of the WHO new complex is in a white circle in this stamp issued by the United Arab Republic (Egypt).

An exact same design as the one above was issued by the UAR for Palestine which was when Gaza was under Egyptian authority.

From the Republic of Viet Nam (South) we have this three stamp set to commemorate the  new WHO building complex. All three have the WHO HQ in their design, but each stamp has a different composition; the first shows the WHO Emblem in a blue and white flag; the second has only the WHO Emblem; the third again has the WHO Emblem inside a dark blue flag.

Another air mail stamp was issued by the French island of Wallis & Futuna with a  similar design .

These two stamps from Zambia are similar to others where the WHO building is in front of the WHO Emblem in a blue flag.

Also from the island of Maldives we have this four stamp set with the standard design of the building complex and the WHO emblem. The date on the stamps is 7 April 1966.

The last item this week is the two stamp set issued by El Salvador for the WHO HQ ....as seen above...but both stamps are over-printed with the date 1968 to commemorate WHO's twentieth Anniversary.
