From Your Editors
New columnist
We welcome Ramesh Shrestha this week as one of our regular columnists. You will find below the second of his articles in his series on the environment, World of Carbon.
Would you consider joining us to write? It need not be a weekly column - rather just be occasional articles about a subject that interests you.
Little-read Articles
Detlef has been looking through our statistics this week to learn why some types of articles are often read while others are seldom read.
Two observations are clear:
- Articles written by one of our members draw many more readers than articles we take from the news media.
- News articles taken from the media are more likely to be read if the person who sends it to us adds a few lines of introduction and says why he or she finds it worthwhile for others to read.
We know that we post far more articles than any one reader can take in, but at the same time we want to provide something for everyone in our diverse readership. It is a fine balance and we need your help.
So two kind requests - 1) please write more often - short or long; in any language you prefer; something original on a subject that matters to you. 2) if you are sending us a news media article for sharing, add a line or two of introduction saying why others should read the same article. Thanks

He and his wife, Gabi, have traveled extensively across continents. Anyone who could say something about how they went from 'then' to 'now'?
Our March Quarterly - Many thanks to Horst Cerni who has submitted the first article for our March Quarterly !! Don't forget - the deadline for our March Quarterly is fast approaching. March 1st. We need your articles, photos, and memories of those who made UNICEF's first 25 years.

Hello dear editors,
ReplyDeleteI like the Updates very much and only wished I had more time to read it all. Here a couple of comments.
1. The history stories are fascinating and so well written. It really keeps the reader in suspense, even after the lifting of the veil. Hoover and Pate were amazing personalities and it was good to learn about UNICEF history from this very beginning.
2. I was also happy to see the UNICEF web sites. Very well done.
3. Detlef gives a different perspective of our "younger" staff, which was fun.
4. And the funnies are always an important part in taking away gloomy thoughts.
5. I loved the quotes and shared them with a former UN colleague, who also liked them, but observed that there was no woman among the group. Maybe to consider in one of the next editions?
Thanks for the excellent job you are doing. It is most interesting and enjoyable reading.
Horst.
