Our Artist of the Week - Patricia Marin

Patricia Marin’s work represents both emotions and daily routine tasks.  These she expresses through shapes, structures and most importantly, harmony of colours.

Her artistic inclinations surfaced only later in life, during her last decade in UNICEF. When she was transferred to New York City, she was inspired to pick up a paintbrush. She took watercolor courses after working hours, and from there transitioned to mosaics.

Her artistic career has included public art in several Chilean towns and cities, where she has over 50 murals, and where she taught local women and children. This no doubt was influenced by her UNICEF work. Recently she has dedicated her time to smaller-scale exclusive vitro mosaics.

She is a current member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) and the Contemporary Mosaic Artists.  She spends her time between art studios in Santiago, Chile and San Diego, California.

Patricia suffered a stroke in late 2016, and has courageously worked her way back towards a full recovery and return to art.

Due to software problems, we are not able to present this week's art and photography in the form of a slideshow.  Instead this week our presentation is in video form.  We strongly suggest that you view the video in full screen mode.  Click the icon in the bottom right corner to open in full screen.

  1. Great work by Patricia. Am saddened to learn of her stroke, but very pleased that she has recovered enough to practice her art and further her talents in this field of mosaics which is relatively less known. Last saw her at the 2015 Budapest Reunion when I learned about her artistic endeavours. We had met in Santiago, Chile, when I was in Personnel Division and had encouraged her to come to New York for a posting that eventually contributed to her technical improvement.
