Beat The Corona Blues ... with the Pathétique

Forget Covid for one hour. Pretend to go to a classical concert and watch the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.6 “Pathétique”, conducted by Kirill Pettrenko.

The Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra has installed a state-of-the art digital concert hall. You can view and listen to it on your computer; or better on your big TV set. How to go about it is explained on their website.

This is not a run-of-the-mill youtube video; the sound and videography is optimized for home viewing. To watch Kirill Pettrenkko is captivating, even if you switch off the sound!

You normally have to pay a subscription or entrance fee – but several concerts are offered for free, including from Tchaikovsky, Beethoven (Symphony no.9), Edward Elgar, Mahler or Puccini.

This is just one example of many orchestras, operas, theatres, museums and other cultural institutions that offer online access to their performances. Often, you may have to pay, but many also offer free entries for part of their exhibitions and performances. Why don’t you suggest similar performances that you find special, and we will feature them on our blog?
