Weil is the first city in Germany to have won the Child Friendly City Certificate. This achievement is thanks to the work of the Superior Mayor of Weil, Wolfgang Dietz, and his wife, Christine, who worked with the Nonnenweiher School.

At the school the pupils and teachers devoted six months to reach out on issues of child rights. The campaign ended with a marathon run.
