Amal Clooney made an impassioned speech to the Security Council calling for justice for the victims of sexual violence on behalf of several Yazidi women who suffered rape while captives of ISIS.
Despite pleas by various sponsors of the draft resolution on sexual violence as a weapon of war, the US delegation was ultimately successful in gutting the resolution of any language calling for provision of comprehensive health care for victims - this out of concern that inclusion would imply support for abortion as a feature of post-rape health care.
