Dear Colleagues,
UNICEF’s work is driven by our fundamental values of care, respect, integrity, trust and accountability.
Living up to these values — including in our private lives — requires staff members clearly knowing what is expected of them, what their rights are, and what processes are in place when any disciplinary measures are required.
The new policy (also available in Spanish, Arabic and French) clearly lays out UNICEF’s zero-tolerance approach towards any misconduct by our personnel, no matter their status or seniority level. It also outlines in detail the fair and balanced disciplinary processes in place to respond to these instances. This includes reporting, investigative and communications processes, and interim measures like administrative leave.
The UN’s Standards of Conduct for the International Civil Service calls upon us to “adhere to the highest standards of conduct” at all times, and live up to the great responsibility of serving the world through the United Nations.
I look forward to continuing our work together to meet this responsibility, and make UNICEF a leader in addressing, and eliminating, misconduct.
Henrietta H. Fore
UNICEF Executive Director
