Mary Racelis Dear Sree, Thank you so much for volunteering to handle the correspondence on the next and future Reunions. I hope I have everyone's agreement to accept her coordinating role. In that event, please send any comments you have directly to Sree, who will liaise with the various persons offering country venues.. From our experience with the Bangalore Reunion in 2018, which Sree and Padmini organized so effectively, we can be sure this latest round of consultations will be carried efficiently and with caring concern for all XUNICEFERs views about our next gathering. Editor's Corner: CRC@30 - The UN General Assembly opened last week and in a High Level Commemoration  celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the CRC . This event served as a kickoff to what will be an exciting series of celebrations.  The period is an important opportunity to remind ourselves, our neighbors, and our governments of the rights of children and the obligations we all share. Retirees can play an important role in these events.  Please contact your UNICEF country office or National Committee to see what they plan and how you can help.  Remember too the other organizations and child advocacy groups who will be celebrating the anniversary with us.  The Arts & Artists of XUNICEF - we sent out the latest quarterly newsletter last week and hope that you received and are enjoying it.  In case you missed it, here is another link or you can always find it on our website.  We were a bit disappointed not to receive more comments on the edition....

UNICEF and Islamic Development Bank Launch Muslim Philanthropy Fund for Children

Read article NEW YORK, 26 September 2019 – UNICEF and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) today launched an innovative fund that will open new opportunities for Muslim philanthropy to reach the millions of children currently in need of humanitarian support and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Muslim Philanthropy Fund for Children (GMPFC) is the first fund focused on Muslim giving to be launched by a United Nations organization together with a Multilateral Development Bank (MDB). The fund will enable multiple forms of Muslim philanthropy, including obligatory giving such as Zakat and voluntary giving such as Sadaqah donations and Waqf endowments, to contribute to emergency response and development programmes. It is estimated that global annual Zakat contributions alone may reach up to US$600 billion, making this a significant potential source of sustainable funding to help achieve the SDGs.
