Climate - Is Bill Gates is Jealous? : Vince Chadwick / Devex / Tom McDermott

Bill Gates says he is "jealous" of the huge global attention and focus that the annual UN climate talks (COP) receive. Meanwhile, he worries progress on global health risks sliding backwards as donors shift funding to the environment.

Gates wishes there could be a similar grand global health meeting like COP that brings immense attention to issues like child survival, nutrition, and brain development. He wants to see more priority placed on global health.

However, Gates and his foundation still receive significant attention. He announced at Davos the foundation's budget will reach a record $8.6 billion in 2023, a 4% increase.

Gates says unacceptable numbers of mothers and babies still die daily simply due to where they were born and lack of basic health solutions. This keeps him up at night.

He argues building a more stable world must start with good health. The foundation aims to catalyze progress on health issues despite the lack of attention compared to climate.
