We are deeply saddened to announce that Jeannie Vickers, passed peacefully at her home in Geneva on 23 June 2021. Jeannie, probably one of the oldest XUNICEF colleagues, would have turned 97 this September.

Jeannie joined UNICEF Geneva in 1972 where she initiated the Development Education (Dev-Ed) Programme. A passionate voice on children’s and women’s issues, she worked closely with UNICEF’s National Committees, vigorously advocating for the need to develop deeper understanding of health, education and other related children’s and women’s issues.

Although Jeannie retired in 1984, she continued to advocate and actively support the production of development education materials through the Women and Development group which she established in 1980. In 2004, twenty years later, her work remained alive; she was honored and recognized at the annual reunion of UNICEF National Committees with an Award.

Jeannie is survived by her son, Paul, his wife Rebecca and their three children, Charlie, Robbie and Katie who live in London. You may send condolences to Paul Vickers : paultvickers@gmail.com
