David Bull: Partnering with the UK Natcom on Children in Lockdown

Hi all

See below the email from Unicef UK on the Children in Lockdown Campaign. Great to see that 15,000 people have signed up (hopefully a good few as a result of XUNICEFers actions). The next step in the campaign is a collection of personal messages to the PM (see below).

Here is the message I have sent:

"Children and young people are not particularly vulnerable to Covid-19, but they have made very substantial sacrifices in support of those who are. This needs to be recognised and their voices need to be heard as we consider how best to emerge from the current stage of lockdown, and how to protect both vulnerable people and the rights and futures of our children and young people."

62% of UK children are worried about the impacts of coronavirus on their lives

David, that's one of the findings from a poll we conducted with children and parents across the UK. Children told us they worry about their parents and family getting ill, their friends, how life will go back to normal, school and their future. You can read more about the findings in this report written by our Youth Board member, Maham.

Lockdown politics have been front and centre this week in the news but children's voices and the effects of this lockdown on them remain largely absent. It's time to remind the government.

With 2 in 5 children telling us that they experience anxiety and worry, it's so important that the Prime Minister joins other world leaders and speaks directly with young people.
