Echoing Canadian PM @MarkJCarney's warning, Mary Robinson of @TheElders, equates the Gaza "Board of Peace" to a "Board of the Power of One" that attempts to undermine the UN Security Council & the rules-based international order.
Former president of Ireland talks about Trump's plan for his Board of Peace

Summary:
Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and founding member of The Elders, harshly criticized President Trump's proposed Board of Peace in an NPR interview.
Robinson obtained a leaked copy of the charter and described it not as a peacemaking organization but as "the board of the power of one person" that is "totally bizarre." The charter makes Trump chairman in perpetuity with exclusive authority to create, modify or dissolve subsidiary bodies, invites members at his discretion, requires a billion-dollar payment for permanent membership (otherwise three-year terms), and allows Trump to choose his own successor.
Notably, the charter makes no mention of Gaza, the territory it was originally supposed to address. She reported that since the Gaza ceasefire began, OCHA estimated 463 Palestinians have been killed and 1,269 injured as of January 15, with humanitarian aid only slightly improved and continued Israeli attacks ongoing. Robinson also noted Israel bulldozed the UNRWA office in East Jerusalem, describing these actions as attempting to undermine any possibility of a two-state solution.
Robinson stated countries are being bullied to join and warned this attempts to replace the United Nations and Security Council. Robinson acknowledged the UN Security Council needs urgent reform as it reflects 1945 power structures rather than today's multipolar world, but emphasized the need to defend the rules-based international order.
Quotes:
"I don't call it the Board of Peace. I call it the board of the power of one person. It is totally bizarre. And countries should not support it at all. It is not a peacemaking organization."
"Trump is responsible for drawing up the charter. He invites to membership. He decides that you have to pay a billion dollars to become a permanent member. Otherwise, it's three years. To leave, you have to give notice to Trump. Trump has the exclusive authority to create, modify or dissolve subsidiary bodies. Trump is chairman for as long as he likes, and then he chooses his successor, and the successor will choose his - their successor."
"This is something that is trying to replace the United Nations and, in particular, the Security Council. Yes, they are flawed. But, you know, we need an organization that was created for all countries to meet on the basis of sovereign equality."
"Since the ceasefire, we've seen some reductions in the killings, but the Israeli attacks in Gaza continue. And OCHA has estimated on 15 January that 463 Palestinians have been killed and 1,269 injured since the ceasefire. That is appalling."
"There is a de facto annexation of Palestinian lands in the West Bank, and now they bulldozed yesterday the office of UNWRA in East Jerusalem, and the world is not paying attention. These - it is appalling what is happening. It's a silent - you know, trying to undermine any possibility of a two-state solution."
