Major firms like Amazon, Target, UPS and Booz Allen have slashed office staff, and recruiters say employers are screening out applicants with too much experience, assuming they expect higher pay or will leave soon. Some job seekers are responding by downplaying years of experience or tailoring résumés to only the last five to seven years to avoid being rejected early in the hiring process.
