Dear Colleagues,
Many thanks to those 200-or-so among us who have already signed the Call on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter (https://www.foggs.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/UN-CHARTER-AT-80-Call-by-former-UN-system-staff_PRG-plus-23-May-2025.pdf).
As per the initial plan, the Call was sent on 28 May to the UN Secretary-General, as well as to the Presidents of the General Assembly, Security Council, ECOSOC and ICJ. Also the Call was published by the Financial Times as letter to the editor: https://www.ft.com/content/e7fc68bf-caed-4e85-bbc5-f23485a3d424 The Call has now been posted on a dedicated web page, with the signatory list that gets periodically updated: https://www.foggs.org/prg/call-un-charter-at-80/
The electronic signature form (https://forms.gle/JBJKt8GbWNrr2ses5) can continue to be used with signatories added till 25 June 2025. The final list of signatories will be issued on the actual 80th anniversary of the UN Charter on 26 June. Please continue to promote among former UN system colleagues, who may have not received our invitation.
We are now also able to receive signatures from senior government officials, current and former (heads of state or government, ministers, parliamentarians, as well as heads of regional and international intergovernmental bodies, religious leaders, and Nobel laureates) through this signature form: https://forms.gle/YVLHASDFvBEAYX6R6
The broader public, those citizens of the world who share our concerns, can also express their support for the Call through this petition on the Avaaz platform: https://secure.avaaz.org/community_petitions/en/world_countries_and_leaders_un_officials_global_ci_reclaim_the_purpose_of_the_un_charter_80_years_on/
Please continue to spread the word. Also consider ways of advertising the Call in the press of your respective countries / regions / municipalities. Quoting the Call, this is our moment to act!
Kind regards, Georgios Kostakos, Executive Director |
