Trump is Coming for the SDGs : Mark Leon Goldberg / Global Dispatches

Article shared by Kul Gautam

At the recent IMF/World Bank meetings, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the Trump administration's "America First" credo did not mean "America Alone".

However, the US's aggressive anti-SDG posture at UNGA, not just distancing itself but denouncing and rejecting Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals, makes the US the sole UN member state opposing the SDGs.

Unlike what the US diplomat claimed at the UNGA, it is doubtful that most Americans who voted in the 2024 US election had ever heard of or cared about the SDGs.

You can't be a leader if you have no followers!

On its opposition to the SDGs, it is clearly America Alone, completely unhinged and isolated from the rest of the world.

Summary

The article reports that the Trump team is already actively working at the United Nations to undermine the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A U.S. delegate recently stunned the General Assembly by formally rejecting and denouncing the SDGs during a vote on an otherwise routine resolution. This move signals a broader, deliberate campaign by the Trump administration to dismantle international cooperation frameworks built around the SDGs, not merely withdraw passively.
