Three nationalities - Australian, Jamaican and German met on St.Croix, US Virgin Islands" |
I didn’t realize how useful Facebook could be, until a former colleague, whom I hadn’t seen for more than thirty years, wrote to my FB address, and on Monday, March 24, Marjorie Newman-Williams (previously
Newman-Black) and her husband Gil and I met in Christiansted, Sr.Croix.
Marjorie had started in the Kingston office in 1979, to assist with the activities for the International Year of the Child. She then got posted to Geneva in January 1983 and subsequently was appointed NGO Liaison Officer at HQ, and in 1991 became the Representative for the Southern Caribbean, based in Barbados.
In 1996, she became Director of the Department of Communication, and after 28 years in UNICEF took early retirement in 2007, settling down to some more NGO work in Washington, DC.

Nice mini Reunion and especially pleasant to see that Marjorie has re-surfaced in our XUNICEF group. As a previous Director in Communication we must encourage her to join the volunteer editors of XUNICEF Blog. I am certain she will bring much needed novelty and vitality to our endeavour.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you all- back in the Caribbean- looking Irie.
