US House of Representatives Passes Bill to Sanction ICC officials : CNN/NYTimes/Reuters

US exceptionalism in not abiding by or defying international treaties & conventions drafted with the help of many distinguished US experts, lawyers and senior officials is truly regrettable. It greatly weakens US claim as a champion of human rights. These include CRC, CEDAW, ICC, Mine Ban Treaty, etc. The US even refused to ratify the genocide convention for several decades.

Too bad the US House of Representatives passed the International Criminal Court sanctions bill in response to Netanyahu's arrest warrant — on the day when the world bade final farewell to Jimmy Carter, a rare and genuine champion of human rights domestically and globally.

Summary
The U.S. House passed a bill to sanction I.C.C. officials over their war crimes investigation of Israeli leaders. The bill, backed by Republicans and some Democrats, freezes assets and denies visas to those aiding I.C.C. prosecutions of U.S. or allied officials. Supporters claim the I.C.C. unfairly targets Israel, while the U.S. continues to send military aid to Israel amid global criticism of its actions in Gaza. Trump has warned of strong retaliation if hostages held by Hamas are not released before his inauguration.
