Article shared by Ken Gibbs
Tim Dowling, an American by birth, is married to a long-term Guardian journalist and in one of the early articles I read about them, he was described as having been trafficked to the UK by her. He has a quirky sense of humour.
His latest piece in today’s Guardian is attached. Why I am sharing it with you is because of the reactions of husband and wife to a washing machine that appeared to be faulty – which is very, very similar to how things happen in the household Gibbs. I particularly like his punch line in the ultimate paragraph which would have been my reaction, too.
When I showed the article to Mary, she smiled. . . . .presumably she would have taken the commercial view point, too ?
Best regards,
Ken

Summary
Tim Dowling’s attempt to gift his wife a new stair carpet for Christmas backfires when he realizes their old one still has some ruining left to do. Between pets peeing on it, muddy paw prints everywhere, and a tortoise turning their floor into a splash zone, they’re in no state to own nice things. Things spiral further when the washing machine breaks down, revealing a treasure trove of coins, guitar plectrums, and a US penny in the pump. Turns out, even the appliances are cash hoarders in this chaotic household.
Key quote
"Have you been digging in the bunker of an abandoned golf course?"
Tim Dowling should be informed that in the UK, there are laws about handling laundered money. Best hand it in to the nearest Police Post.
