You may have heard the sad news of our very dear colleague, Suomi Sakai who passed away in what I understand was a diving accident in the Bahamas earlier this week on 27th January.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Suomi's daughter (Lisa) and husband (John Quinley) have set up a website and sent a message below.

Dear Friends,
Thank you all so much for the beautiful words about Suomi.
We have and continue to receive such an enormous outpouring of love and support for her.
Today we set up a website where we have posted some photos of my mom that you can look at.
If you want, you can also leave a message, tell a story, or even post a photo if you have one.

I am saddened by this news. Rest in Peace, dear Soumi.
ReplyDeleteJohn, Lisa and Sean,
ReplyDeletePlease accept my condolences.
It was so shocking to see the news of Suomi Sakai's passing. She is still young, her death is regrettable!
I started working at UNICEF China Office in June 1989 after Suomi. We were often interacting in the office when we were in Beijing. Her voice, appearance, and smile are still vivid in my eyes and mind.
May Suomi rest in peace!

I am deeply shocked and sad to know about Soumi’s untimely and unexpected passing. She spent 4 weeks with me in Egypt before taking up her assignment ad Rep for Nepal. It was.a Privilege for me to share my management experiences which she preferred to learn from instead of a prestigious course. May she test in etetnal peace
DeleteSo sad to learn about Suomi Sakai's untimely passing. She was a first rate professional and a warm, wonderful human being. I recall her leadership in health and as UNICEF Rep in Nepal. In all of her UNICEF assignments, she was a model of competence, commitment and compassion. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
ReplyDeleteSad, very sad to hear ofnthe passing of Suomi. A wonderful person, amiable and supportive. May her soul rest in peace.
