What is War For? : Video by UNICEF Deutschland / Voices for UNICEF

Video shared by Sree Gururaja

Editor's Note: Readers may recognize the setting where the children sing as the 'Green Bunker' mentioned in Horst Cerni's feature "Ruins (and a Bunker)" which we posted on 23 November 2024. Detlef Palm left a comment on Horst's feature including a link to this excellent music video.  We are reposting it now given the song's importance in this time of war .

A video by UNICEF Deutschland. What are wars for? This question, which Udo Lindenberg asked the world back in 1981, is more relevant today than ever before. To draw attention to the situation of children in war and the help they urgently need, the panic rocker has given UNICEF the English version of his anti-war song - sung by Voices for UNICEF aka Halle, Henri and Katharina.

Comments

  1. This song is a very appropriate action that all Heads of State or Government should consider. "What is war for?" has been a lingering question for at least 80 years and when the UN was founded. It seems particularly relevant today, the second Sunday of Advent, where people are encouraged to pray for peace. Will the Notre Dam re-dedication and the meetings there help that 2025 will stop the war in the Ukraine? Let's continue to hope and pray.
