Jardin El Capricho, Madrid : Luis Oliveros

Luis Oliveros writes "my father's lenses (1960s or 50s, I don't even know ) - which I can only adapt to my modern Nikon with great difficulty - and the light at a nearby park nearby (in Madrid, El Capricho) never cease to amaze me."

El Capricho (the Caprice, or the Whim) is small,. It used to be a private park and only opens on weekends. I have gone many times, and if it is not cloudy, you always get the same strange fantastic green light. There used to be two black swans, one of them fell sick and was taken to the "Swan hospital".

Months later the second one became too aggressive (against a couple of Egyptian geese invaders, he was right to be aggressive) and was also taken to the "hospital" (another pond in Madrid) and replaced by this solitary and smaller one that has been at El Capricho park for at least two years.

As mentioned in one of my earlier articles, Black Swans are from Australia, they were only "discovered" at the end of the 18th century, do not thrive anywhere else, and you only see them in parks. They are as beautiful as the white ones.

  1. Luis, how beautiful and peaceful far away from a world full of conflict..two minutes of calm seeing your pictures. I can see why you like the black swans- they look majestic in their poise.

  3. Yes, Luis, the black swans have a certain majesty to them which distinguishes them from the "ordinary" white ones. In the world of ballet, Swan Lake and The Swan are a testimony to this. When we wintered in the Coachella Valley in the town of Rancho Mirage (South California) our condo was located on the edge of twin artificial lakes in which many swans and ducks were present. But it was there that we saw our first black swans and I have many photos of them which I will try to find and share. Things of beauty, indeed. Muy lindos.
