The author, Dr. Jean Baptiste Kamate, World Vision's Chief of Field Operations, argues for greater investment in children along with action by world leaders to prioritize children in the global development agenda.

Kamate notes that this year there are three key opportunities for changes in the direction of action for children:

  • United Nations Summit of the Future: This summit aims to adopt the action-oriented Pact for the Future, which could significantly bolster children's future well-being.
  • G20 Summit: The G20 Summit in Brazil presents an opportunity for leaders to commit to a "Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty."
  • IDA21 Replenishment: The replenishment of the World Bank's International Development Association offers a chance to prioritize children in its new mission of creating a world free of poverty.
