The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, blocking aid delivery and creating a food emergency in several areas. Meanwhile, the international community is facing a major challenge in providing assistance to the starving population, as the UN and aid organizations are struggling to navigate the complex political and security landscape. The situation is particularly dire in South Kordofan, where people are resorting to eating leaves and roots to survive.

Excerpts:

"25.6 million people in Sudan are enduring critcal food shortages. More than 100 people are dying every day from starvation."

"For four months in a row this year Sudanese authorities refused travel permits to South Kordofan and Darfur."

"The UN’s reticence to confront Sudan’s government over the blocking of aid has effectively made it a hostage of the government, a dozen aid workers told Reuters."

“The UN has been very shy and not brave in calling out the deliberate obstruction of access happening in this country,”
