Armenia @ 30 - Finding those who built UNICEF over the Years : Christine Weigand / Gianni Murzi

UNICEF Armenia is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year.  The Representative, Christine Weigand, is asking for help by XUNICEF members in tracing the UNICEF staff who built the country programme and office over those years.

We have received the following message from Ms Weigand.

"I am reaching out to you since I know that you are well connected with the UNICEF retiree network, and because I know you know the history of the region well. UNICEF Armenia is celebrating 30 years of its work this year, and I would like to find a way to involve former UNICEF colleagues who have worked in Armenia in the celebration. I am trying to compile a full list of colleagues who have worked in Armenia so we can then reach out to them by email.

I have received a list of names from our HR colleague who has been with the office for 20 years, so the list will cover a good part, but probably not all. So I would greatly appreciate if you could please help me both (i) finding out who else has been working in Armenia or with Armenia (as an Area Rep or so in the initial days) and (ii) tracking down contact details. I am including below the names I have so far - the end of the list are the names for which I have contacts, even if some of them are retired.

Gloria Fernandez, Asst. Rep
Branislav Jekic, Rep
Ruth Leano, DepRep
Laylee Moshiri, Rep
Malati Pillai, Dep Rep
Cristina Rocella, Dep Rep
Hamid El-Bashir, CP Manager

Thanks
Christine Weigand"

If you know of the current contacts for any of the people listed, please write to Ms. Weigand (cweigand@unicef.org) and copy us at xunicef.news.views@gmail.com

Editor's Note:
We are delighted to learn that another UNICEF office is researching its history. Please do whatever you can to help the office contact the people listed or suggest the names of others who worked in UNICEF Armenia over the years.

What we know so far is that the office was originally part of an area office covering Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. We understand that Boris Tolstopiatov was the first area representative. Boris left UNICEF in 2011 and we have not so far been able to trace him.

We also understand that Ms. Gloria L. Fernandez was the first Assistant Representative and head of office in Yerevan. A Gloria Fernandez. According to Linkedin, a former UNICEF staff member,
Gloria Fernandez Porada
, is an independent consultant in Barcelona. We are not sure whether this is the same person. If you are in touch with Gloria, please let her know and ask her to contact Ms. Weigand.
