Summary
A United Nations staff member was killed and five others injured on March 19, 2025, when a U.N. guesthouse in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, was struck. Experts analyzing photos of the scene concluded that the damage was consistent with two Israeli M339 tank shells. The Israeli Defense Forces have denied responsibility for the strike. In response, the U.N. has reduced its international staff presence in Gaza.
Quotes
“The photos show damage consistent with two Israeli tank rounds, according to Trevor Ball, a former explosive ordnance disposal technician for the U.S. Army; Chris Cobb-Smith, a security consultant and former artillery officer with the British army; and N.R. Jenzen-Jones, director at Armament Research Services, a munitions research and analysis consultancy.”
“The Israeli military repeated its denial that it was responsible for the strike.”
"Marinov was the second UNOPS worker killed in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. The agency says at least 280 U.N. staff members have been killed since Hamas launched its cross-border attack in October 2023, and the health ministry says more than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed."
"U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters in Geneva last month that the Israel “knew exactly where this U.N. facility was” but struck the guesthouse nonetheless. “We need to see accountability for those who took the decision, whether it was deliberate targeting, whether it was miscommunication, but there needs to be accountability,” he said."

Cell phone images in the immediate aftermath of the attack
A two mile shot on a UN guest house, one round an airburst over the patio, the second blows out the rear upstairs bedroom. Last week a three vehicle aid worker convoy was ambushed, passengers gunned down, then thrown in shallow graves and their vehicles crushed by likely armored vehicles. This is not random, nor is it undisciplined troops, this is targeted and intended for UN leadership. What is the response?
ReplyDeleteSame response as to all of the other war crimes committed .. crickets.
